Hole 9

HOLE 9

The outward Nine at St Mellion climaxes with the par four Ninth. It sweeps up from the tee position, offering a rather small landing area on the fairway before the dog-leg turns right. Hit the tee shot too far, and the ball will land in the rough on one of the many mounds surrounding the fairway. Try to shave the corner towards the hole and you risk either going out of bounds, or landing perilously close to the fairway bunker. Your approach to the green should be from about one-hundred-and-fifty yards. Beware of the trap to the right at the front of the green. The light rough gets very close to the putting surface . . . so any deviation in length or line could leave you with a very tricky approach shot. The green itself is saddle-shaped, without any vicious contours. A par four to finish the front Nine? YouÆll be doing well.
